Thousand Sons, the first five

Quick update for you all today. These are the Thousand Sons from the previous Workbench update. These are commissioned figures, all assembly performed by client.

These have been unexpectedly trying, I've always liked the Thousand Sons so this seemed very unfair! Still, they are done now, might go back and put some detailing on the loincloths. I'll see how it looks when all ten are done.

Yellow, as always, is a trying colour to work with. I paint it by starting with a couple of thin layers of Iyanden Darksun. Shading is achieved by a wash of Gryphonne Sepia over the yellow. Then building up highlights of increasing amounts of Skull White in the Iyanden Darksun. Once highlighted to almost pure white I glazed the whole area with a few thin glazes of Sunburst Yellow.

The gemstones turned out nicely, they are a graduated shade from Dark Angels Green (top left shaded with a little black) and highlighted up through Snot Green and Scorpion Green. A final highlight of Scorpion Green with Skull White and a little Sunburst Yellow is added. Once dry a few glazes of Thraka Green took the highlights back down to green. Paint on a white "catchlight" and then paint a layer of gloss varnish to add that hard shine.

So, a toss of a coin whether I finish the World Eaters or Thousand Sons next. Will let you know!
